Cucumber
Cucumber is a summer, climbing vegetable from the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae). It is grown outdoors during the summer months and cultivated under cover (in greenhouses) during the winter.
In Turkey, about 60–70% of cucumber production is carried out in open fields.
The cucumber plant originated in India, where it has been cultivated for over 5,000 years. From there, it spread to China, Western Asia, North Africa, and Southern Europe.
Harvest Season
Depending on the variety’s earliness and the cultivation conditions, harvesting begins approximately 55 to 70 days after sowing or planting. The ideal time for the first harvest is when the fruits reach about one-third or at most half of their full mature size.
